Writer’s block happens when a writer canโ€™t find ideas to further their story. Many things cause writer’s block: some of them include improper plotting or structuring of their story, procrastination, intimidation by other writers, lack of inspiration, distractions, fear of criticism, the want for perfection etc.

๐Ÿญ) ๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—”๐—— to Break Writer’s Block:

This is the best thing you can do for yourself as a writer. Reading stories related to the genre you are writing is great, but you don’t have to be stuck reading one genre. Read wide. Read magazines, blog posts, newspapers, documentaries and any other thing you can think of. Consciously collect these materials and read them. It provides a reservoir for ideas to spring from, it widens your imagination and improves your word usage. It also gives you insight on creative ways to use words. As a writer, you must read consciously. Read something new and outside your niche, whenever you can.

Keep in mind that you are not reading so you can copy from them, you are reading so you can be inspired to be unique.

๐Ÿฎ) ๐—ช๐—ฅ๐—œ๐—ง๐—˜:

Yes. You overcome writer’s block by writing. As I said earlier, you may experience writer’s block because you are busy thinking on or doubting the authenticity of your idea, character, scene, story, etc. In your bid for perfection, you have magnified a problem more so you canโ€™t find your way around it; step back. There are no perfect stories.

You can put down your story and try writing other things. This helps to refresh your mind. Itโ€™s recess in the thick of work day. Working on other things allows you to step back from your story and allow you recharge before revisiting it. The next step is to go back to your plot and follow the story from the beginning to your current road block; as you do so, open your mind to other possibilities, you may find them. If you donโ€™t, maybe itโ€™s time to get extra help: writers help writers, writers coach writers. You will be surprised what an extra pair of eyes can find.

๐Ÿฏ) ๐—›๐—”๐—ฉ๐—˜ ๐—” ๐—ฅ๐—ข๐—จ๐—ง๐—œ๐—ก๐—˜:

You can only get better at something you do regularly. I recommend writing in the mornings, especially after waking up. That does not mean keeping new ideas in your head until the next morning; thatโ€™s where journalism comes in. Make writing a habit. Routine writing makes it easier to approach difficult writing. This will help you to know that you shouldn’t write only when you have inspiration to do so.

๐Ÿฐ) Breaks help with Writer’s Block

You may be experiencing writer’s block because you are stressed out. You are stuck on that computer screen. It’s hard to come up with ideas that way. Go have some fun. Go for a walk, visit a gallery, hang out with friends, try something new, take a course, do whatever makes you happy and most importantly, get good sleep. You’ll notice that when you get back to your story, you’ll feel differently about it. You will be invigorated to tackle the problem with better ideas.

๐Ÿฑ) ๐—ชriting Prompts:

These are random themes to build stories on. This is to help you refresh your mind. Try giving strangers a background story, maybe link it to what they do. Pick someone sitting at a restaurant, observe them and give them a story: just short paragraphs of course. Take into consideration the things with them or around them like clothing, accessories, pictures, colours, etc. Or use abstract themes like love, tragedy, etc. This helps you practice and does a world of good to your writing. You will find that you can give better descriptions in your writing.

You could give yourself writing prompts or you could ask someone to just suggest something that he wants you to write about. It’s a way to challenge your imagination. You’ll unlock capabilities you thought you never had.

๐Ÿฒ) ๐—๐—ข๐—จ๐—ฅ๐—ก๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—œ๐—ก๐—š:

Journalng has to do with writing down your experiences on a daily basis. You can draw ideas from your own experiences and add them to your book. When you lack motivation or ideas, you can always go through your journal for inspiration. Also, journaling adds to practice.

If you are used to sitting in a corner in your room, it’s time to change that position. You can go outside. Change your device. Try writing with pen and paper.

Remember that you are not in this alone. At some point, writers experience writer’s block. Do not allow yours to determine the end of your writing career. Follow our page for more writing tips.
